Tongo Diamond Fields, Sierra Leone

Miners manually dig out the large pits that yield the diamonds. Just before the Sierra Leone Civil War, miners used Caterpillar machinery to mine these very same fields, but since the war, transporting large machinery to Sierra Leone has become logistically difficult.
